Local Priorities Personal theft (e.g. pick pocketing, no violence used) Message

I wanted to provide you an update regarding Personal theft (e.g. pick pocketing, no violence used), which some members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey.

Last week our neighbouring ward team Green Lane & St James SNT held their quarterly Ward Panel Meeting. 

During the meeting an attendee brought up that a friend had told them of a "group of young people" aged around 16-18 who'd been seen on a number of occasions (from 9:30pm onwards) around the bench located between the end of Surbiton Hill Park and the bridge leading towards Green Lane Park / New Malden (What3Words location - elder.tower.feast)

The friend said that the group had been approaching people passing and demanding that they hand over property such as phones & headphones.

At this stage, there have been no reports of any thefts in that area, and we have not been contacted by anyone mentioning this as an issue however we will be paying attention to the area as will the Green Lane & St James team.
